This article is concern with the concept of family at the stage of Early Childhood Education in Spain. The assumption under investigation is that textbooks printed in Spain do not provide an adequate treatment of family, and students better represent an abstract idea than their own circumstances. The methodological approach adopted includes an assessment of family conception through a questionnaire to 118 students between 4 and 5 years old, and a qualitative analysis of six of the most representative publishers in Spain. The need of a deeper an adequate treatment of the family concept at school emerges as the main conclusion of this research.
