Trade Union Strategies and the Case of the Greek Metal Sector: Theoretical and Methodological Concerns

The following paper aims at presenting some methodological concerns
pertaining to the field of labor movements’ political
sociology. Focusing on the core concept of unions’
strategy, I will try to raise two interrelated issues: how
could we conceptualize unions’ strategies based on the
existing theory; how could we test these conceptualizations
at the operational level. Empirical material from Greek
trade unionism in metal sector is tapped in order to
support my theoretical and methodological assumptions
