This paper is a description of a distinctive type of community, a naval warship while on deployment. The research is a result of participant observation on the part of the field researcher who integrated and immersed with the crew of a ship while on deployment. The major objective was to describe the unique, closed professional environment of a modern warship and the people who comprise its environment.
