This paper investigates the sense of belonging and identity work of a cohort of Chinese students enrolled in an Australian university. In this paper, I adopt a semi-structured interview to collect the data from selected Chinese participants at University X in Melbourne. On the basis of my detailed data, I explore Chinese students’ sense of belonging and their intense identity negotiation in Australia. In the process of doing this project, I also attempt to capture the complex forces involved in their identity negotiation from the perspectives of culture and identity. Hopefully this informative research project will provide information for the parties involved in internationalized higher education practice and enhance their understanding of Chinese students in Australia and worldwide.
