Double-degree University Graduates: A Case Study in Spain

The opportunity to study a double degree in college is a tool that some universities, especially the private ones, are offering to potential students to add value and gain a competitive advantage. In order to determine to what extent the dual degree is a strong argument for future graduates, we conducted a quantitative study on the option to open a double degree, Degree in Advertising and Public Relations and Marketing Degree and Commercial Business Management, indicating the implications entail extra effort for students and questioning on the main motivating factors. The majority of respondents would opt for the double degree, and the main motivating factor is to get more opportunities to find work.

Dra. Ana Beriain Banares

Professor, Communication, Abat Oliba CEU University, Barcelona, Spain

Ana Beriain has her Ph.D., in Communication (Universitat Ramon Llull) and a degree in Information Sciences from the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB). She developed her career in market research institutes and multinational companies (CIAC, Institute DYM and Millward Brown) as the Quantitative Research Director from 1983 to 2004. Currently, she works as a market research consultant and professor at the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU (UAO). She has received the 2012 Prat Gaballi National Research Award. She is a member of the Psycocreativity Research Group (UAO) and of AEDEMO (Asociación Española de Estudios de Mercado y Opinión).

Dr. Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón

Professor, Communication, Abat Oliba CEU University, Barcelona, Spain

Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón has his Ph.D., in Journalism from the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), a degree in Information Sciences, a degree in Political Sciences and Sociology, his masters in Communication Research, masters in Communication Sciences, and masters in Sport and Communication. Gascon is the Director and professor of the Communication Sciences Department in the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU (UAO), and professor in the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and Universitat de Girona (UdG). He is Director of Digital Communication and New Technologies UAO university master and the CECABLE (Cable Studies Center) director. He has published a numerous books and scientific articles about communication, journalism, telecommunications, the internet, marketing and education. He has received the Cable Gold Award (First International Meeting on Cable Telecommunications Networks), the UAO Gold Medal and many other awards. He is the principal researcher of the Research Group about Digital Journalism and Broadband (UAO), and he works as a collaborator in his expertise in journals and mass media, such as Godó Group, Prisa Group, Z Group, Avui, Triple Play and others.
